- Hell, the Occult, & the Demonic
April 28, 2024 Hell, the Occult, & the Demonic Sermon Series: The Church Never Preaches On... Download PDF Matthew 25:41-46 41 “Then he will say to those on his left, ‘Depart from me, you cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. 42 For I was hungry and you gave me no food, I was thirsty and you gave me no drink, 43 I was a stranger and you did not welcome me, naked and you did not clothe me, sick and in prison and you did not visit me.’ 44 Then they also will answer, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and did not minister to you?’ 45 Then he will answer them, saying, ‘Truly, I say to you, as you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to me.’ 46 And these will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.” Main Idea Hell is the ultimate horror, reminding us that our actions really do matter. Outline 1. ...because the judge is Jesus Christ. (v41-45) 2. ...because the punishment is eternal. (v46) Pre-Questions 1. What's a way that the world talks about Hell, that isn't true? 2. The topic of Hell can be uncomfortable. Why do you think that is? Discussion Questions 1. How does Matthew 10:28–33 help our perspective? 28 And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather fear him who can destroy both soul and body in hell. 29 Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? And not one of them will fall to the ground apart from your Father. 30 But even the hairs of your head are all numbered. 31 Fear not, therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows. 32 So everyone who acknowledges me before men, I also will acknowledge before my Father who is in heaven, 33 but whoever denies me before men, I also will deny before my Father who is in heaven. 2. Read Revelation 20:10. Even though the image of the lake of fire is most likely imagery, what does this tell us about Hell? 3. Can you be a Christian and deny the existence of Hell? Why not? 4. How does God's act of pouring out his wrath - on sin and sinners - point us to the Gospel? How does this direct us to worship?
- Living Water: Woman at the Well (Part 1 of 3)
June 2, 2024 Living Water: Woman at the Well (Part 1 of 3) Sermon Series: It Had To Be Said Download PDF John 4:1-14 Now when Jesus learned that the Pharisees had heard that Jesus was making and baptizing more disciples than John (although Jesus himself did not baptize, but only his disciples), he left Judea and departed again for Galilee. And he had to pass through Samaria. So he came to a town of Samaria called Sychar, near the field that Jacob had given to his son Joseph. Jacob's well was there; so Jesus, wearied as he was from his journey, was sitting beside the well. It was about the sixth hour. A woman from Samaria came to draw water. Jesus said to her, “Give me a drink.” (For his disciples had gone away into the city to buy food.) The Samaritan woman said to him, “How is it that you, a Jew, ask for a drink from me, a woman of Samaria?” (For Jews have no dealings with Samaritans.) Jesus answered her, “If you knew the gift of God, and who it is that is saying to you, ‘Give me a drink,’ you would have asked him, and he would have given you living water.” The woman said to him, “Sir, you have nothing to draw water with, and the well is deep. Where do you get that living water? Are you greater than our father Jacob? He gave us the well and drank from it himself, as did his sons and his livestock.” Jesus said to her, “Everyone who drinks of this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks of the water that I will give him will never be thirsty again. The water that I will give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.” Main Idea Jesus Reveals He...Gives Eternal Outline 1. An invitation (vv7-10) 2. An offer (vv11-14a) 3. A revelation (v14b) Pre-Questions 1. What was one thing from this message (or passage) that surprised you? 2. What would be good questions to ask when reading this passage? Discussion Questions 1. Read Jeremiah 2:13. How does this passage help us understand what Jesus is doing in John 4? 2. Imagine you were an Israelite in the 1st century. What would your reaction to this passage (John 4:1-14) be? 3. Jesus is talking to a woman who (culturally) was seen as beyond lost. Who are people who you see as beyond lost? 4. How does this passage and sermon challenge the mold we can put these people who are "beyond lost?"

- Polarizing Division Vs. Gospel Peace
March 3, 2024 Polarizing Division Vs. Gospel Peace Sermon Series: Withstand Download PDF Ephesians 6:15 and, as shoes for your feet, having put on the readiness given by the gospel of peace. Main Idea The Gospel makes us ready to bring peace in a polarized world. Outline 1. Gives us what we stand in and on. (v15a) 2. Makes us ready to face the world. (v15b) 3. Brings us back home. (v15c) Pre-Questions 1. What about this sermon challenged your worldview? 2. Have you been praying for Peace Church and its leaders during this series? Discussion Questions Reflect on the list of divisive issues mentioned in the sermon (gun laws, climate change, abortion, etc.). Which of these topics do you find most challenging to discuss with others who hold opposite views, and why? How can the Gospel guide us in these conversations? The sermon highlights the growing polarization in American politics and its correlation with people's views on social and policy issues. How does identifying primarily as an ambassador of the Kingdom of Heaven, rather than by political affiliation, change the way we engage with the world and its issues? The main idea of the sermon is that the Gospel makes us ready to bring peace in a polarized world. Discuss how the Gospel equips us to be peacemakers. What are practical ways we can embody the gospel of peace in our interactions with others, especially those with whom we disagree? Ephesians 6:15 discusses the "readiness given by the gospel of peace" as part of the spiritual armor. In the context of the sermon, how does this piece of armor help Christians withstand the spiritual battles behind cultural and political wars? Share examples from your own life or observations. Considering the sermon's emphasis on the Gospel's role in bringing peace to a polarized world, what are some specific actions or commitments we can make as individuals and as a group to bring the message of peace into divisive environments? How can we support each other in these efforts?
- An Overview of the End Times
May 19, 2024 An Overview of the End Times Sermon Series: The Church Never Preaches On... Download PDF Mark 13:32-37 “But concerning that day or that hour, no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father. Be on guard, keep awake. For you do not know when the time will come. It is like a man going on a journey, when he leaves home and puts his servants in charge, each with his work, and commands the doorkeeper to stay awake. Therefore stay awake—for you do not know when the master of the house will come, in the evening, or at midnight, or when the rooster crows, or in the morning— lest he come suddenly and find you asleep. And what I say to you I say to all: Stay awake.” Main Idea Christ has announced He will return, so we need to be prepared. Outline 1. We don't know when it will happen, so we must stand guard. (vv32-33) 2. We don't know when the King will return, so we must stay awake. (vv34-37) Pre-Questions 1. Before we start, take a moment to humble yourself when we start talking about end times. This topic can be divisive. Our goal in this discussion isn't to leave with a perfectly mapped-out picture of the way end times will be played out. Love your fellow community group members and seek to worship together in unity. Discussion Questions 1. When the bible talks about end times, what kind of literature is that? (Hint: it has to do with the word apocalypse) What kind of language is used in apocalyptic literature (literal or metaphorical)? 2. Read Isaiah 11:6–9. How does this help us understand this topic? How is this a reversal of the fall? 3. Read Revelation 11:15–19. How does this help us find comfort and encouragement?
