FIT: How the Spiritual Disciplines Help Us Look More Like Jesus

Have we bought into the idea that grace means growth without effort? Has the Gospel become a formula for spiritual laziness? Or do we approach our Christian life with a dedication and discipline?

The truth is, every Christian wants to grow. Sometimes, we just don't know how. In this series, we are going to take a serious look at proven spiritual practices that can help us become more like Jesus, fit for heaven. As we will see, this takes effort, but the joy that comes through spiritual discipline is life transforming.

MARTYN LLOYD-JONES

"How often do we hear about the discipline of the Christian life these days? ... it is, I profoundly believe, because of our neglect of this discipline that the church is in her present position. Indeed, I see no hope whatsoever of any true revival and reawakening until we return to it."

FIT Program

The Fit program runs over the next five weeks. Within this program, you will be introduced to some basic spiritual disciplines. These disciplines are like a workout program. By learning and mastering these basic skills, you will begin taking the steps required to grow your Christian life.

Even if you have been a Christian for many years, you will benefit by walking through this program. It will give you an opportunity to reassess your daily habits, renew practices that may have fallen off over the years, and maybe rediscover habits of the heart that can bring deeper rewards than you have ever experienced.

Paul described the Christian life as a race. I do not know about you, but I cannot imagine simply standing up one day and deciding to run a marathon the next morning. If I was serious about such a goal, I would have to be consistent, disciplined, and strategic about training for weeks.

My hope is that you will take the next five weeks and journey with me. Together, we are going to work on the habits and skills required to move to the next level in our spiritual fitness.
